Logically speaking, Powell has no reason to step in and make things worse during such a tough time. Even though he doesn’t get along with Trump, based on his performance at the Jackson Hole meeting, the two of them are basically aligned on the big-picture issues. After all, he can’t afford to take the blame for crashing the U.S. stock market. So, we’re already at the bottom—whatever happens next, it’s only going up. Might as well go all in and let it ride.
