This week, during the Ethereum developers' meeting, they mentioned that EIP-7791 might be considered in the upgrade after next. This proposal is pretty fascinating—if contract developers utilize this new opcode (GAS2ETH), then in the future, every time a user interacts with this contract, besides paying Ethereum for computation fees, they’ll also need to pay a small amount of gas fees to the contract developer's address.
This could potentially provide creators or public goods with another way to earn micro-revenue. As long as the contract has a large user base, it could generate a steady stream of income.
The first sentence of this EIP states:
'The basic premise of this EIP is: smart contract authors, compiler teams, and public goods projects as a whole deserve to be compensated for their contributions.'
