Julia Leung has been serving as the CEO of the SFC since January 1, 2023. During her tenure, she introduced a licensing regime for virtual asset trading platforms and published a virtual asset roadmap. She has been relatively supportive of the digital asset industry, describing the future of digital assets as vibrant and full of potential. She also mentioned adopting the regulatory principle of "same business, same risk, same rules" to bring crypto over-the-counter trading and custody institutions under regulatory oversight. In response, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong government stated that they do not comment on speculation regarding personnel appointments, while the SFC replied that updates will be provided in due course.
