[U.S. Department of Justice Considering Indicting Former FBI Director]
According to a report by Golden Finance citing NBC News, two U.S. Department of Justice officials and a source familiar with the matter stated on Wednesday that the Department of Justice is weighing whether to indict former FBI Director James Comey for allegedly lying to Congress. This internal discussion comes after former President Trump posted on social media last weekend, urging Attorney General Pam Bondi to take action against Comey and two other political opponents. The charges in question involve Comey's testimony before Congress on September 30, 2020, in response to Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz's inquiry regarding an information leak authorization. If the Department of Justice decides to indict Comey, it could happen within the next few days. The five-year statute of limitations for the related charges will expire early next week.
