[U.S. SEC Proposes Comprehensive Reform of Public Company Disclosure Rules, Trump Simultaneously Calls for 'Switching Quarterly Reports to Semiannual Reports']
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Paul Atkins, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), stated on Friday that the agency will advance a comprehensive reform plan for public company investor disclosure rules. In the same week that the SEC announced this news, Trump posted on social media, suggesting that the SEC should change the financial reporting frequency of public companies from 'quarterly' to 'semiannual.' Atkins remarked, 'Now is the right time to examine various channels of information access, methods of information dissemination, and what kind of disclosure practices meet actual needs.' He pointed out that many investors gain more insights from 'earnings call conferences' than from quarterly reports. Additionally, Atkins expressed agreement with Trump's view—Trump had criticized the 'quarterly reporting system for causing executives and management to overly focus on short-term profits.' (Jin10)
