Who will own OpenAI? Check out The Information's report—OpenAI is completely overhauling its equity structure through a corporate restructuring, shifting from a nonprofit capped-return model to a traditional corporate equity system. In OpenAI's $500 billion valuation restructuring plan: - Microsoft, as the largest external shareholder, will hold about 28% of shares (valued at $140 billion); - The nonprofit board will hold about 27% of shares (valued at $135 billion); - Current and former employees collectively will hold about 25% of shares (valued at $125 billion); - Investors in a new funding round led by SoftBank will collectively hold about 13% of shares (valued at $65 billion); - Early investors will hold about 1% of shares (valued at $5 billion). For Microsoft, beyond equity, they are also seeking guaranteed usage rights to OpenAI's intellectual property after 2030.
