[U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Hiring Part-Time Workers to Collect CPI Data]
Reported by Jinse Finance, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is recruiting price data collectors to gather information for a key inflation indicator. Due to staff shortages, this indicator increasingly relies on a statistical estimation method to fill data gaps. The agency has posted 25 part-time economic assistant job openings nationwide, responsible for collecting price data for the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Work locations include major metropolitan areas such as New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago. These positions are critical for obtaining price information from local businesses. Inflation Insights LLC President Omair Sharif stated, 'If these positions can be filled quickly, the proportion of estimated prices in the CPI over the coming months is likely to decrease significantly, which will substantially reduce the margin of error in current estimates.' In June, BLS announced it had begun suspending price collection efforts in three metropolitan areas due to insufficient resources in those regions.
