The memecoin inspired by Elon Musk's tweets is a classic 'dog coin'—make sure to distinguish between direct and indirect hype!
Over the past couple of days, Elon has been tweeting frequently about the hot topic of violence in the U.S., which clearly falls under indirect hype. He's talking about political issues, and the frequency of his tweets is much higher than when he was hyping AI-related stuff before—totally different category.
IRYNA's real takeoff wasn't really due to Elon. Even after he mentioned it, the market cap was only a few hundred thousand. It wasn't until Trump announced yesterday morning that he would investigate the murder case that it truly started its million-level pump.
These news-driven coins typically have a lifespan of just two days—some don't even last a full day. IRYNA dropped from a $9M peak all the way down to just over $1M yesterday. Although it had a small V-shaped recovery today, breaking the previous high is basically impossible.
Afterward, a bunch of other coins tied to U.S. violence news popped up, all trying to capitalize on Elon's tweet wording. Most of them hit a market cap ceiling of just a few hundred thousand, and many couldn't even get off the ground.
Take JULIE from yesterday, for example—it peaked at a $500K market cap before starting to fall. Or JUSTIC today, which is also tied to a tweet Elon reposted, but it's hovering around $500K as well.
News-driven coins thrive on short-term hype, and their PVP (player vs. player) nature is much higher than other types of 'dog coins' or memes. They're the least suitable for long-term holding, so bros, take your profits while you can!
