[Hong Kong Law Enforcement Arrests Two Individuals for Electricity Theft in Cryptocurrency Mining, Facing Up to 5 Years Imprisonment]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Hong Kong law enforcement has arrested two local men suspected of installing mining machines for cryptocurrency mining at a care home for disabled individuals in Cheung Sha Wan. This resulted in additional costs of up to HK$9,000 for the facility. The two men have been temporarily charged with electricity theft, and the case is still under investigation. It is reported that electricity theft in Hong Kong is considered a serious crime. According to the Theft Ordinance, anyone who dishonestly uses electricity without proper authorization, causes electricity to be wasted, or diverts electricity elsewhere dishonestly is committing a crime and may face a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment.
