Registering with Interactive Brokers (IBKR) requires proof of an overseas address, but the overseas brokerage channels aren’t completely blocked: Firstrade is still available for registration, supports users from mainland China, and doesn’t require submitting proof of an overseas address. Firstrade is one of the earliest internet-based online brokers in the U.S., with a history even older than Robinhood. Over a decade ago, when I was opening a U.S. stock account, there was no Tiger Brokers or Futu yet. I eventually found Firstrade and have been using it ever since. Aside from the app being a bit clunky and hard to use, everything else is pretty good. Honestly, it seems like not many people use this platform, and it’s rarely mentioned.
