[EU Proposes Removing Tariffs on U.S. Goods to Encourage Lower Auto Tariffs from the U.S.] Odaily Planet Daily News: The European Commission proposed on Thursday local time to eliminate import tariffs on U.S. industrial goods as part of a trade agreement with the United States. This agreement is expected to retroactively reduce U.S. tariffs on European automobiles. The proposal marks the first step in implementing the framework agreement reached between U.S. President Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on July 27. Under the agreement, the EU accepted a broad 15% tariff to avoid a disruptive trade war. The U.S. has agreed to lower tariffs on EU-produced automobiles from 27.5% to 15%, effective from the first day of the month when the EU legislative proposal is submitted (i.e., August 1). (Jin10)
