Progress on U.S. Crypto Legislation: Can Digital Assets Be Used as Collateral for Mortgages?
Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis revealed the latest updates on the crypto market structure bill during an interview. She mentioned that after the stablecoin bill, the 'Genius Act,' was signed into law, the legislative focus has shifted to the 'Clarity Act,' which serves as the market structure bill for digital assets. Lummis specifically highlighted that the Senate version will introduce a key definition for 'ancillary assets,' aiming to clearly distinguish between securities regulated by the SEC and commodities regulated by the CFTC, providing a clear legal framework for the market. Additionally, she is advocating for another bill that would allow homebuyers to include their digital assets as part of their net worth when applying for a mortgage.
