As Prime Minister, I took immediate action to upgrade NHT housing schemes built between 1976 and 1986, fixing roads, addressing sewer issues, repairing leaks, and repainting exteriors. To date, 76 of 100 schemes have been completed, with the remainder underway.
Housing in Jamaica faces a long-standing challenge, a shortage of homes. For 40 years, demand has outpaced supply, leaving a deficit of 150,000 houses. While programmes like rent-to-own offer options, they cannot solve the fundamental problem, we need more houses.
The Jamaica Labour Party is delivering. We have started construction on 70,000 homes, with 53,000 more in planning, procurement, and development through the NHT. Over the next five years, these homes will provide real solutions for Jamaicans who need them most.(Andrew Holness)
