The latest interview of Zeroknowledge FM is definitely worth watching
The interviewee is Justin Drake from the EF Foundation
This issue is definitely worth a look, as you will see some trends in zk and their value in ETH, as well as some comprehensive information related to recently issued projects
I have summarized some interesting/important points after reading:
-One of the Vitalik roadmaps is to Snark everything, which can enhance every layer of Ethereum, from the consensus layer (CL) to the data layer (DL), and then to the execution layer (EL). For a long time, Snarkification has been a bit like a castle in the air, as we need to implement real-time proving, which means the delay of the proof is less than one slot of Ethereum, usually within 10 seconds.
-They made Ethproofs( http://Ethproofs.org )A journey towards real-time proof and hoping to accelerate this goal in the process. Ethproofs can be said to be the L2BEAT of zkVM.
-The origin story of Ethproofs. Over a year ago, the RISC Zero (@ Boundless_xyz parent company) team discussed with us and proposed an idea: if there were an archive to store proofs of all historical Ethereum blocks
-Ethproofs has a zkVM tracker, and now there are 32 different zkVMs that are integrated with Ethproofs one after another.
-By Snarkifying EVM, extending Layer 1, and introducing a new set of entities - validators - they will prove the Ethereum chain in real-time. validators only need to verify these proofs without downloading blocks, and can still authenticate the validity of these blocks
-ZkVM is used to Snark EVM. This is similar to the case of client diversity. There are five or six different consensus layer and execution layer clients. Even if one, two, or three of them have vulnerabilities, Ethereum can still survive. Assuming that every client has vulnerabilities. The same goes for zkVM. We assume that each zkVM has vulnerabilities, but overall it is secure. To achieve the ultimate goal of embedding a single zkVM, we need end-to-end formal validation and have high confidence in the selected zkVM. (Note: So XDs, even if @ Succinchlabs takes the lead, this proves that the market is large enough to accommodate multiple companies, it must be multiple. @ Boundless_xyz doesn't have to argue about who has stronger technology.)
-Each team claims to be the fastest zkVM. The reason is that everyone uses different benchmark tests, which leads to a lot of setbacks and time waste, as each zkVM team needs to delve into competitors' benchmark tests, identify problems and "cheating" areas. But now with a fair competitive environment, Ethproofs can collaborate more objectively and healthily.
-The business model of zkVM: In 2023, we saw the emergence of co processors and prover networks, and RISC Zero was the first to define the current concept of zkVM. ZkVM has become a market for validators, integrating two business models. There are also teams working on the decentralized verification layer. Naively, zkVM seems like a public good, open-source hardware and software that anyone can replicate. But now I have changed my perspective, which is a bit short-sighted. I believe that zkVM will sweep across the globe, far surpassing the blockchain field. High integrity and high-value fields such as banking, healthcare, and aviation will all be Snarkized. Google may hire hundreds of engineers, and NVIDIA may produce ZPUs.
