Had the pleasure of visiting Sitka, Alaska a few years ago. It was prev known as New Archangel (Novo Arkhangelsk) when it was a Russian outpost. Was at some pt a top5 New World city. The Russians later sold Alaska to the US (under Secretary of State Seward) bc it was going to be conquered by Canada anyway, as the Russian Empire became overextended. At the time Seward’s political enemies called it Seward’s icebox and a colossal waste of money.(Zhu Su)
