The US Treasury Secretary clarifies the government's cryptocurrency strategy: no additional purchases of Bitcoin at this time, but the plan to expand reserves has not been terminated
According to a report by Golden Finance, US Treasury Secretary Besson made it clear on Fox Business Channel on Thursday that the US government will not directly purchase more Bitcoin, but later added that this does not mean stopping plans to expand its cryptocurrency reserves. Since Trump signed an executive order in March to create the Bitcoin Strategic Reserve, the market has been closely monitoring its specific operational details. The reserve is currently based on approximately $20 billion in cryptocurrency confiscated by the government from criminal activities, and the government decree explicitly requires the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Finance to explore a "budget neutral" approach to expand the reserve size. Beisen's statement of "not buying" on the show in the morning was interpreted by the market as a halt to expanding reserves. But he added in a statement on social media that "the Ministry of Finance is committed to exploring a budget neutral path for increasing Bitcoin holdings," and his spokesperson emphasized that previous remarks were overinterpreted - the statements in the program were only casual and not major policy announcements.
