Puffer's Based Rollup solution UniFi AVS has been launched, and we have previously analyzed the principle behind Base's 10 fold performance improvement solution at the press conference, https://(x.com)/jason_chen998/status/1945828993367744641, It is mentioned that its core is also implemented using the "pre confirmation" mechanism of Based Rollup, but there is a major risk hidden in it, that is, because the pre confirmation is completed by a very small number of nodes and there is no real consensus block, there is a risk of ineffective or even malicious transactions, which can only rely entirely on the reliability of the responsible pre confirmation nodes.
Puffer's Based Rollup solution is based on pre confirmation and heavy collateral to ensure security while achieving speed. Puffer registers AVS in Eigenlayer and requires each node responsible for pre confirmation to pledge ETH to commit to strictly following the requirements. Currently, Puffer's AVS has received $13 billion in funding to ensure the security of pre confirmation.
According to official documentation, Puffer's Based Rollup can achieve instantaneous trading effects at the 10 millisecond level.
Starting from Base, the adoption of pre confirmation mechanism in L2 is a trend, as L2 itself is centralized. With just a little more centralization, performance can be improved by more than 10 times, which is very cost-effective. However, the problem is how to make this cost-effectiveness safer and also feed back to the L1 main network. Therefore, pre confirmation alone is not enough. It is necessary to combine quality assurance with penalty and reward mechanisms to form a complete Based Rollup.
