I have instructed the Chairman of the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ), Mr. Norman Brown to conduct an audit of all land titles with outstanding balances under 150,000. We are moving to implement a Title Amnesty Programme that will allow those individuals to receive their titles without the burden of those small, lingering fees. This measure will bring real relief to a significant number of Jamaicans who have been locked out of the formal economy for too long. To those with balances exceeding 150,000, I encourage you to come in and begin making arrangements, we are ready to work with you to settle your accounts and get your titles in hand. Land ownership gives you access to financing, to business opportunities, and to building wealth for your family. It gives you security. This is part of our broader commitment to ensuring that more Jamaicans have access to the tools they need to prosper, especially our ambitious and deserving citizens who are ready to build a better life.(Andrew Holness)
