According to Bloomberg, Nicholas Truglia was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison for his involvement in the theft of $22 million in cryptocurrency. On July 10, 2025, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison by Judge Alvin Hellenstein of the Southern District Court of New York for failing to fulfill a $20.4 million compensation agreement. Truglia pleaded guilty in 2021, admitting to participating in a criminal gang that used SIM card exchange to control the victim's phone and transfer their encrypted assets.
