According to a report by Golden Finance, on July 9th local time, US President Trump announced through social media that he would impose a 50% tariff on products imported from Brazil starting from August 1st. Brazilian President Lula issued a statement in response, stating that the claim that "the United States has a trade deficit with Brazil" is purely false information. Official US statistics show that over the past 15 years, the United States has accumulated a trade surplus of $410 billion in goods and services with Brazil. In view of this, any unilateral imposition of tariffs will be responded to equally in accordance with Brazil's Commercial Reciprocity Act. Lula emphasized that national sovereignty, mutual respect, and firm defense of the interests of the Brazilian people have always been the core principles for Brazil to handle international relations.
