As someone who grew up on welfare and food stamps living in one of the worst neighborhoods in America, let me ask you:
The outrage you feel about 500 of taxpayer funding going to feed an AMERICAN family of 6 - do you feel equal or more outrage when taxpayer funds go to bailout the banks, automakers, airlines, and oil companies?
The U.S. provides approximately 20 billion annually in direct subsidies and tax breaks to the fossil fuel industry, with 80% allocated to natural gas and crude oil and 20% to coal.
You mention her shopping at @Walmart - are you outraged that Walmart has secured over 1.2 billion in subsidies since the 1980s.
What if she shopped at @amazon? Amazon’s received over 6.7 billion in public subsidies since 2000.
Since 2000, Boeing’s received nearly 16 billion.
Intel’s received over 3.3 billion since 1994.
GM’s received over 1.7 billion in subsidies since 1986. Were you outraged when the U.S. government BAILED OUT General Motors, using taxpayer money, because GM made shitty cars the public didn’t want but still paid big bonuses to its CEOs?
So for anyone who gets outraged when taxpayer money helps a legit family in need but and cries socialism yet says nothing when our government leaders regularly engage in corporate socialism:
GFY. 🖕
