According to Cointelegraph, the US Department of Justice recently recovered $40300 worth of cryptocurrency from a political fundraising fraud case, thanks to the assistance of stablecoin issuer Tether. Scammers impersonated officials from the Trump Vance inauguration committee, sent emails using forged domain names, and deceived donors into transferring USDT stablecoins worth $250300 on December 24, 2024. Two days later, the victim transferred the funds to a cryptocurrency wallet controlled by the fraudster, and the funds were quickly transferred. The Federal Bureau of Investigation tracks and freezes some funds through blockchain analysis. It is worth mentioning that this is the second time Tether has assisted law enforcement in recent times. In June, it assisted in freezing $225 million worth of USDT involved in "pig killing" fraud.
