Started the first day of the #NATOsummit at breakfast with our geographically most distant friend: Prime Minster (@chrisluxonmp) of New Zealand. Although not a NATO member, New Zealand is one of the Indo-Pacific Four, which are all partners of our alliance. Our two countries have always enjoyed very close ties. We stand as one to defend the international rule of law and human rights and to promote free trade and security.
We discussed a range of geopolitical developments: European ones such as the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, but also security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. We also agreed on a Joint Cooperation Statement that will further strengthen our cooperation on peace and security, prosperity and innovation, trade and investment, and climate and green growth.
