Today, I received an update from Assistant Superintendent of Police Kinlocke on the state of crime in St. Thomas. Compared to the same time last year, we’ve seen slight increases in murders, shootings, and rapes, up by 1, 2, and 3 cases respectively. While these numbers are concerning, I’m encouraged by the strong performance in other areas. Robberies, break-ins, and larcenies are down, and that’s a step in the right direction. Most importantly, the police in St. Thomas have achieved a 63% clear-up rate for murders, which means more cases are being solved and justice is being served. We will continue to support the police, strengthen our crime-fighting strategies, and invest in safer communities for the people of St. Thomas.
