When it was just released, the May CPI and core CPI annual and monthly rates were basically lower than expected, and the Cleveland Fed's forecast was accurate again. The general logic is that compared to the significant drop in tariffs that affected CPI in April, the commodity inflation caused by tariffs was offset by the decline in energy and the weakening of the service industry.
