Kaspersky, a cybersecurity company, has revealed that a hacker group called Libra Ghouls (also known as Rare Werewolf) has been attacking hundreds of Russian devices since December 2024 through malicious phishing emails disguised as official documents, particularly targeting industrial enterprises and engineering schools, affecting Belarus and Kazakhstan. The organization disabled the security system through remote connection and ran cryptocurrency mining software from 1am to 5am, optimizing mining using device RAM, CPU, and GPU. Kaspersky speculates that it may be a hacker activist who relies on legitimate third-party software rather than homemade malicious programs.
