Communication saves lives, and in disaster management, it is one of our greatest national assets.
Thanks to our partners, including the Government of Japan through JICA, Jamaica now has a robust national emergency telecommunications system and public safety network that helps us reach every community in times of crisis.
After the devastation of Hurricane Beryl, we launched the Disaster Risk Management Review Committee to identify gaps and strengthen national preparedness. From financing and infrastructure to early warning systems and community readiness, every element was reviewed.
What sets Jamaica apart today is our growing self-reliance. We are no longer depending solely on outside help. We have the systems, leadership, and economic strength to respond to disasters swiftly and effectively.
That is a national achievement, and it begins with good governance.
