𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗗𝗔𝗢 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗨𝗽? For years, @MakerDAO has been one of the few DeFi protocols that not only lasted but actually worked. It rebranded to @SkyEcosystem last year, and is still stable, transparent, and consistently functional in a space often known for its chaos. Now, it’s going through one of its most important changes to date: the upgrade from MKR to SKY. This upgrade is not a rebrand. This is the result of years of governance experimentation coming to a head, with the goal of making Maker more stable, more scalable, and better equipped for the future. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 Has 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴ed 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. From @MakerDAO to @SkyEcosystem: What’s Actually Happening? MKR, the original governance token of MakerDAO, had its governance function deprecated as SKY takes over as the sole governance token. The upgrade is voluntary and non-custodial. That means if you hold MKR, you’re in full control of when (or if) you upgrade. You can upgrade 1 MKR into 24,000 SKY through a smart contract, no middlemen involved. This is a technical and governance upgrade aimed at simplifying how @SkyEcosystem operates behind the scenes. SKY will carry all governance responsibilities going forward, while MKR’s voting role will be sunset to prevent confusion between the two. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲? Governance in @MakerDAO has always been a work in progress. With SKY, @SkyEcosystem is streamlining how decisions are made and how participation works. Here’s what the upgrade is designed to solve: → Simplify voting. SKY allows for a more modular and scalable approach to governance. The goal is to make it easier to participate without sacrificing security or oversight. → Encourage participation. SKY aims to do that by making the governance process more straightforward and transparent. → Unify the system. Instead of juggling legacy governance with new tools, SKY becomes the single point of decision-making, bringing clarity to the protocol’s future. What If You Wait? The upgrade is open-ended, but starting September 18, a delayed upgrade penalty of 1% is expected to go into effect. Here’s how it works: → For every three months you wait after that date, the amount of SKY you receive will be reduced by 1%. → There’s no penalty if you upgrade before September 18. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘄? Alongside the token upgrade, @MakerDAO now @SkyEcosystem has rolled out a few major updates: → SKY staking is live at http://Sky.money, and rewards will be paid in USDS, the protocol’s upgraded stablecoin (formerly DAI). → A temporary pause is in place for liquidations on SKY-backed vaults that are staked. This is a short-term risk measure while market liquidity catches up. → All of this is part of a broader shift, but a deeper change in how the ecosystem operates. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗲 This transition didn’t come out of nowhere. It was proposed, discussed, debated, and voted on, all in public. The decision to upgrade to @SkyEcosystem was the result of a transparent governance process, held on the Sky Governance Forum and confirmed by onchain vote. This kind of change doesn’t happen unless the people who care about the protocol agree it’s the right move. That’s what makes this moment important: it reflects the maturity of the DAO itself. If you’re an MKR holder, this upgrade is your moment to participate in a chapter that’s been years in the making. Not because of hype or FOMO but because it’s the next step in making @SkyEcosystem stronger and more sustainable. You don’t have to rush. You don’t have to speculate. But if you believe in the project’s long-term goals, it’s worth understanding why SKY exists and how it can help shape what comes next.
