Bitcoin developers engage in heated debate over lifting OP-Return data storage restrictions

According to Protos, core developers of Bitcoin are engaged in a heated debate regarding the removal of OP-Return data storage restrictions. The PR 32359 proposal submitted by Peter Todd suggests abolishing the current 83 byte data carrier output restriction, which has received theoretical support from Chaincode Labs developer Antoine Poinsot. Developers point out that existing restrictions have been proven ineffective - users cannot spend output through Taproot, miners use private memory pools (such as MARA Slipstream), and other methods to continuously store non-financial data. Supporters believe that the current restrictions are nominal and hinder legitimate use cases; Opposing representative Luke Dashjr criticized the proposal as "completely crazy" and emphasized that vulnerabilities should be fixed instead of condoning "junk data attacks". Developers are posting new comments every hour through email threads and GitHub. Some people use a simple "concept ACK" to express support, but have not yet undergone comprehensive technical testing, while others release a "concept NACK" to express opposition.
