Jake Gallen, CEO of Emblem Vault, a digital asset trading platform, was hacked after a suspicious Zoom video conference, resulting in losses of over $100000 in Bitcoin and Ethereum assets. The attacker impersonated a YouTube blogger with over 90000 subscribers and used Zoom's default remote access feature during video interviews to install malicious software called "GOOPDATE" on Gallen's computer. The cybersecurity researcher at SEAL suggests that practitioners in the cryptocurrency industry should promptly disable Zoom's remote access feature to prevent similar attacks.
