Why do 90% of projects' TGEs end in failure?

Doing these things is a prerequisite for a successful TGE.

In the past two years, I have collaborated on over 30 Pre-TGE projects and discovered three unexpected key reasons that lead to the failure of most tokens during TGE.

Projects that raised millions of dollars are repeating the same mistakes. I have summarized some patterns: failed projects do not disclose their issues; they are too busy blaming others; successful projects also do not share their secrets, wanting to take all the credit for themselves.

This leaves new founders confused, completely unsure of where to start. So, what are the core keys to TGE? Without them, TGE is destined to fail, and founders must invest most of their time in these areas.

As the founder of a marketing company, I reluctantly admit that the answer is not marketing. Marketing can amplify good fundamentals, but without a solid foundation, even the most glamorous marketing is just a house of cards that will collapse with a push.

Here are three rarely mentioned core factors that can destroy TGE projects.

Market Makers

Choosing a market maker is essentially like playing Russian roulette:

  • Best case: Both parties have aligned incentives and share profits together;

  • Worst case: They are scheming behind your back, causing years of your hard work to go to waste.

The issue of information asymmetry is terrifying; they will only show you success stories and will never mention their failures.

So, how should you choose a market maker? In 99.9% of cases, you should choose a market maker strongly recommended by someone you trust or someone you have worked with directly.

Do not trust recommendations from strangers; they can receive hefty referral fees from market makers and will recommend them vigorously, even if they are unreliable.

An important reminder: If the project fails, you bear the consequences, not them.

Even if you have the best marketing, the most active community, and the top-notch team, if the market maker causes your token price to plummet by 50%, you will be powerless to recover.

Token Economics

The same goes for token economics; you and your team may not have studied 50 token models or seen their actual effects.

You absolutely cannot copy the token economics of successful projects and assume it will apply to you as well. Investors' goals and appetites are constantly changing, and if you want to attract them to buy, you must adjust accordingly.

Similarly, consultants will only show you their success stories; you will not see the projects that have gone to zero.

One additional point: If the current token economics is destined to ruin your project, modify it decisively.

Do not care about:

  • Airdrop hunters getting angry;

  • People complaining on social media;

  • Seed round investors being dissatisfied.

If under the current token model, the token price drops by 90% in a week, they will still be dissatisfied; the difference is that you will go bankrupt in three months.

Clearly, the best solution is to avoid this situation from the start, but as an old Roman saying goes, "Desperate times call for desperate measures."

Listing on Exchanges

This is the point I want to emphasize the most. Issues with market makers and token economics will only manifest after TGE, but collaborating with exchanges is the most painful and dangerous thing before TGE.

Why is it painful?

  • Communication is extremely difficult;

  • It is hard to coordinate a consistent timeline;

  • They often change their minds at the last minute, forcing you to delay TGE.

Why is it dangerous?

  • Predatory terms can cripple your project;

  • Many teams fall victim to fake representatives;

  • Spending millions to list, only to attract selling pressure with no buying interest.

The fastest way to solve this problem: Get to know the internal personnel of the exchanges and understand the baseline costs of listing to avoid being taken advantage of.

Due to information asymmetry, many teams waste hundreds of thousands of dollars in preliminary negotiations.

Conclusion

Everyone is waiting for a better market environment to launch TGE, but if you do not get the above three points right, no matter how good the market is, your token will struggle to stand firm. As a founder, you should focus your main energy on these three things while supervising other team members to excel in their respective areas.
