In the context of the global AI wave reshaping the world, Ethereum is actively positioning itself as a neutral and trustworthy foundation for the emerging smart economy. At this critical moment, the 4th ETHShanghai conference will be grandly held in Shanghai from October 18 to 22, 2025.
This conference, themed “Expanding Ethereum, Shaping an Open Future,” brings together the world's top minds and forces, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, the new co-executive directors of the Ethereum Foundation Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak, as well as heavyweight guests from the EigenLayer team, to explore the future landscape of the Ethereum ecosystem.
The conference is led by the Chinese-speaking builder community ETHPanda, co-hosted with Wanxiang Blockchain Lab, PANews, and TinTinLand, and will be held concurrently with the Wanxiang Blockchain Global Summit, aiming to create a focal point for the global Web3 world. This event will center around a five-day hackathon and summit, gathering the most active developers and researchers from the Asia-Pacific region to drive ideas from code to users.
Industry Leaders Gather
The main summit on October 22 will be the ultimate stage for technical consensus and ideological collision, with plans to invite over 40 industry leaders to delve into core topics such as Ethereum scalability, modular ecosystems, developer growth, and long-term security through keynote speeches and panel discussions. Among them, the attendance of several heavyweight guests is particularly noteworthy, as their insights will guide the future development of Ethereum.
Vitalik, as the co-founder and soul of Ethereum, profoundly influences the trajectory of the industry with every public statement he makes. His presence is undoubtedly the highlight of this conference, and the global community looks forward to his latest cutting-edge thoughts on Ethereum's future roadmap, the integration of AI and blockchain, and core topics such as DeFi.
Equally noteworthy is the new co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, Hsiao-Wei Wang, who has a strong technical background. Before joining the foundation's leadership, she had been a core researcher for seven years, making key contributions to the development of Ethereum sharding and the beacon chain. She is not only proficient in protocol fundamentals but also an outstanding community builder, having successfully organized multiple high-quality technical exchange events in Taiwan, providing the foundation with valuable perspectives connecting research and community.
Alongside Hsiao-Wei Wang in leading the foundation is another co-executive director, Tomasz Stańczak, who will also attend this event. As the founder of the Ethereum execution layer client Nethermind, he has a background as a financial market engineer and was involved early in the development of FlashBots and StarkNet. Tomasz is known for his exceptional execution and organizational skills, having developed Nethermind from an experimental project into a top global blockchain development organization. His arrival aims to inject stronger execution and product-oriented thinking into the Ethereum Foundation, accelerating the development of the ecosystem.
Youth Voyage to Hackathon
Prior to the main activities of ETHShanghai, the "Youth Voyage Program" has been launched to discover and fund at least 30 outstanding young developers from Asia. The program has a budget of over 6000 USDT, providing participants with up to 200 USDT in transportation subsidies to lower the threshold for engaging deeply with Ethereum's core ecosystem in Shanghai. The registration deadline is October 3, and the list will be announced on October 10. Successful candidates will participate in on-site exchange activities in Shanghai on October 19 and must also join the ETHShanghai hackathon. As the technical core and innovation engine of the conference, the 72-hour offline hackathon from October 18 to 21 will serve as a stage to ignite the next decade of innovation for Ethereum. The event will select about 100 top developers from over 500 global applications, incubating 30 to 40 cutting-edge projects on-site.
The hackathon will focus on three major cutting-edge tracks:
- AI × ETH: Following the establishment of the dAI team by the Ethereum Foundation, this track will explore the deep integration of AI and Ethereum, encouraging innovation in areas such as smart contract automation, on-chain governance agents, and AI-driven risk control.
- DeFi × Infra: In the context of the evolution of RWA and modular technology, this track aims to promote the reconstruction of financial infrastructure, building a safer, smarter, and more scalable financial network.
- Public Goods × Open Source Development: This track will strengthen the ecological foundation, support the development of underlying infrastructure and collaborative tools, and promote the continuous development of open finance and open society.
Winning projects will share a total prize pool of up to $15,000, and winners from each track will have the opportunity to showcase their results on the main summit stage to top investment institutions. Participants are required to submit a GitHub repository, a demo video, and proof of originality, with the registration deadline set for October 1. Registration link: ETHShanghai 2025 Hackathon
