The second season marks Sonic's transition from the "growth phase" to the "sustainable development phase."

The Sonic $S token airdrop for the second season will launch on June 18, featuring a larger scale, smarter mechanisms, and richer rewards.

The new rules introduce a more dynamic structure for users and applications, focusing on rewarding genuine and sustained participation in the Sonic ecosystem.

Whether you are a seasoned DeFi user or a developer building the next generation of on-chain applications, the second season offers you more ways to earn incentives and reasons to stay active.

💡 Note: The claim for the first season will open a few weeks after June 18, during which a review will be conducted to filter out bots and witch attacks, ensuring rewards are distributed to real users.

User Section: Second Season Points System

In the first season, Sonic successfully attracted around 100,000 daily active users and formed a thriving DeFi ecosystem by incentivizing user participation through a passive points mechanism.

The second season will shift towards a structure that emphasizes fundamentals and sustainability. Key updates are as follows:

❌ Elimination of Passive Points

Simply holding whitelisted assets will no longer earn points. The passive points mechanism, initially established to help new users get started quickly, has been completely removed.

⚡ Only Active Behavior is Rewarded

Users must earn points by deploying whitelisted assets within the Sonic ecosystem, including participating in DEX market making, lending, and various other DeFi activities.

As the second season begins, "active points" will be referred to simply as "points," as passive points no longer exist.

📈 Loyalty Multiplier

To encourage sustained participation and prevent "yield farming and exit" behavior, a loyalty multiplier mechanism is introduced:

  • The initial multiplier is based on first season performance, ranging from 1.0x to 2.0x;

  • Active behavior during the second season will dynamically increase or decrease this multiplier, with a maximum of 3.0x and a minimum of 1.0x;

  • Currently applicable only to EOA wallet accounts, with potential future expansion;

  • The loyalty multiplier will be visible after the MySonic page goes live and will continue to be used in multiple future seasons.

💥 Whitelisted Assets

All whitelisted assets from the first season remain valid in the second season, and more assets may be added as the season progresses.

📋 Second Season Distribution Mechanism

The reward distribution mechanism for the second season will differ. We will announce the final distribution format three months into the second season, including whether to adopt a "direct release" and "locked release" ratio.

Application Section: Gems System Second Season

Application competition is no longer solely based on TVL (Total Value Locked). This season places greater emphasis on sustainability, real income, and fairness.

Key updates are as follows:

⛔ Prohibition of Gems Tokenization

Applications are no longer allowed to tokenize Gems; violators will be immediately disqualified from this season.

However, applications can choose to:

  • Launch their own points incentive program;

  • Request S tokens through Gems, to be distributed to users in the third season.

🎯 Incentive Weight

This metric measures the proportion of S tokens that applications actually distribute to users from the Gems redeemed in the first season.

For example:

  • If an application distributes 100% of S to users, the Gems earned in the second season will be 1x;

  • If only 80% is distributed, it will be multiplied by 0.8x;

  • This distribution must be completed before the end of the second season.

💰 Revenue Score

In the first season, trading fees were overlooked to boost TVL. The second season introduces a revenue score metric to reward applications that genuinely generate fees.

  • Only trading fees generated from whitelisted assets are counted;

  • The more revenue generated, the stronger the product-market fit, indicating real value to the network, leading to higher rewards;

  • Encourages incentive mechanisms to shift towards real usage.

⚖️ Category Weighting

Weighting multipliers have been adjusted for different application categories to more accurately reflect their value contribution to the ecosystem.

📊 Second Season Gems Distribution Formula

The Gems share for each application this season will be calculated based on a new formula.

🎮 Game Gems maintain the original structure and are not affected by changes.

First Season Review

The first season launched on December 18, 2024, with the Sonic mainnet, aiming to drive early adoption. Users could earn points by holding whitelisted assets (passive) or deploying assets in DeFi (active). Applications competed primarily based on TVL for Gems.

Throughout the season, Sonic attracted hundreds of thousands of users, with active users reaching 100,000, laying the foundation for the sustainable reward mechanism in the second season. The first season will end on June 18, 2025, with the second season starting immediately after.

🗓️ Claim Timeline

The claim portal will go live a few weeks after June 18, for reviewing and filtering out bots and witch attackers.

💧 User Claim Mechanism

  • 25% of rewards can be immediately claimed as S;

  • The remaining 75% will be minted into a tradable NFT, released linearly over 270 days;

  • This NFT can be traded on the secondary market of Paintswap;

  • If users choose to claim the locked portion early, it will trigger a burn penalty;

  • The NFT is valid for 6 months, and unclaimed rewards will be burned after the expiration.

💎 Application Claim Mechanism

  • 50% of the S obtained by applications can be claimed immediately;

  • The remaining 50% will be released linearly over 3 months;

  • If the application's Gems have been tokenized, Sonic will provide a centralized frontend for users to claim;

  • Users have 3 months to claim; otherwise, the rewards will be burned.

🎮 Arcade and Shard Users

Users participating in Sonic Arcade and holding Shards will receive all rewards based on the same 25% liquid + 75% locked rule.

Summary

The second season marks Sonic's transition from the "growth phase" to the "sustainable development phase."

  • Users will be rewarded for long-term commitment rather than short-term speculation;

  • Applications will be incentivized for real economic contributions rather than inflated TVL;

  • The loyalty multiplier will encourage sustained activity, making on-chain behavior more important than ever.

This is a smarter, more coordinated system designed for those ready to accompany Sonic for the long term.

💡 Reminder: Once the second season begins, your points on MySonic will reset to zero, but the data from the first season will be securely saved and used to calculate your loyalty multiplier.
