Co-founder of Strategy, Michael Saylor, hinted at an upcoming Bitcoin acquisition and revealed that over 13,000 institutions currently hold the company's assets directly.

The company's most recent acquisition occurred on April 14, when it purchased 3,459 Bitcoins for $285 million, bringing its total holdings to 531,644 Bitcoins, valued at over $44.9 billion at current prices.

In a post on the X platform on April 20, Saylor continued his tradition of sharing Bitcoin price charts (which typically signal an impending acquisition) while disclosing the investor holdings in the company: "According to publicly available data from the first quarter of 2025, there are currently over 13,000 institutions and 814,000 retail accounts that directly hold MSTR stock. An estimated 55 million beneficiaries indirectly hold through ETFs, mutual funds, pensions, and insurance portfolios."

The growing appeal of Strategy among retail and institutional investors is significant— the company is channeling traditional financial market funds into the Bitcoin space. The increase in capital inflows has prompted the company to continue accumulating and holding more Bitcoins, gradually driving up the price of this limited-supply digital asset.

Michael Saylor's stock market-Bitcoin pipeline

Strategy finances its Bitcoin acquisitions by issuing corporate bonds and equity, providing investors with indirect exposure to Bitcoin while bringing traditional financial market funds into the Bitcoin market.

In December 2024, Strategy was included in the Nasdaq-100 Index—this weighted stock index tracks the 100 largest companies by market capitalization on the Nasdaq exchange.

After being included in the Nasdaq-100 Index, Strategy will attract more passive investors to allocate funds into the Bitcoin space through holding this tech-heavy index.

In February 2025, Bitcoin analyst Julian Fahrer reported that 12 states in the U.S. hold Strategy's assets, including California, Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Texas, and Utah.

Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas recently stated that the inflow of funds into Bitcoin ETFs and the continued buying by institutional investors like Strategy have effectively cushioned the impact of short-term speculative selling on the Bitcoin market. He added that year-to-date, Bitcoin ETFs have recorded approximately $2.4 billion in net inflows, providing support for the price of this digital asset.
