For more than four decades the American Friends of Jamaica @afjcares turned affection for our country into action for our people. Their contributions after Hurricane Melissa has been particularly meaningful in complementing the Government’s reconstruction efforts, helping communities restore their livelihoods and rebuild their future, and we are thankful for their enduring support. Brand Jamaica is evolving and our country continues to attract investors who recognize the quality of our people and the opportunities in our economy. The success of companies such as @sandalsresorts demonstrates the capacity of Jamaican enterprise to develop globally competitive products while retaining a distinctly Jamaican identity. The development of a country is a collective undertaking among the private sector, philanthropic organizations, community institutions, and our diaspora, and last night we recognized the the contributions of two individuals who exemplify international reach, Jamaican excellence and the importance of giving back. These two Jamaicans are Adam Stewart and Sheryl Lee Ralph. We congratulate you both for your contributions to your island home and for demonstrating both in mindset and in action, your profound love for Jamaica. We salute you! We also salute the AFJ for their steadfast partnership as we look forward to strengthening the bonds that unite Jamaica and our community and friends across the world.
