[Investment Scam Losses Exceed $8 Billion in 2025, New York State Warns of AI Deepfakes and Fake Crypto Projects] Odaily Planet Daily News – New York State officials have warned that AI-generated content and fake cryptocurrency projects are making investment scams more deceptive. Investment scam losses in 2025 exceeded $8 billion, a 38% increase compared to 2024, with 144,041 consumers reporting losses. The median loss per incident was $10,560. AI can be used to clone voices, forge videos, impersonate financial professionals, and create social media advertisements. New York State Attorney General Letitia James has previously warned that scammers use celebrity deepfake endorsements, fake cryptocurrencies, pump-and-dump schemes, and fraudulent trading platforms to lure investors. Some fake platforms display fabricated account balances, earnings, and transaction records, allowing victims to make small withdrawals to build trust before demanding additional funds or fees. New York State officials advise consumers to verify the identity of promoters, companies, and investment projects, and to confirm the destination of their funds. According to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), reported losses from cybercrime in 2025 amounted to $20.877 billion, with complaints involving cryptocurrency accounting for $11.37 billion in losses. Common signs of scams include promises of high returns, unsolicited investment opportunities, high-pressure sales tactics, and projects lacking clear documentation. (Bitcoin.com News)
