What is managed decline? Let’s say right now the solution to our problems is outside the Overton Window. As conditions deteriorate (commies gain power), the O Window expands to include this solution as publicly palpable . But since conditions have since deteriorated, the old solution is no longer strong enough to solve the problem. Given the worsened conditions, the new solution required is once again outside of the expanded O Window. Thus you get a situation where the O Window is forever chasing the correct solution. That’s why the O Window is more of an O Prison for the right given decades of leftist linguistic/ideological capture. That’s why the game for the right has been to say extreme things and for the left to clutch pearls.
As long as popularity matters, internet anons need to push the O Window out faster than conditions can deteriorate while MAGA politicians toe the popularity line on the right edge of the O Window but not beyond it. For this clandestine task, no glory awaits us. Our own people may be forced to deny us.
And if we fail, what is left to be done but suspend elections and implement unpopular fixes.
Borrowing from one of Thiel’s favorite analogies, there’s a narrow path between the Scylla of destroyed republican norms and the Charybdis of communism. If we can’t thread the path, then I say we pass by the Scylla. We may lose some men to the Scylla but the Charybdis devours the entire ship.(Galois Kevin)
