In response to Dario’s recent bold claims, someone from inside Anthropic has stepped up, and even Musk has joined the fun A few days ago, Gavin spilled the tea, saying he heard from multiple reliable sources that Dario Amodei once claimed internally at Anthropic: one day, Anthropic might become the only private company in the world, leaving just Anthropic and governments. Well, an Anthropic employee, Sholto, clapped back directly: completely false. He said no matter who Gavin heard this from, that person is lying and just pandering to the narrative people want to hear. Sholto even dropped an article written by Dario himself. In it, Dario expressed concerns about AI leading to “excessive concentration of economic power”: A few companies controlling massive wealth and influence, potentially even swaying governments. In other words, we now have two conflicting versions: the external leak claims Dario privately envisions Anthropic taking over the private economy, while an internal researcher is using Dario’s public article to prove that his biggest fear is exactly that kind of outcome. Musk with the perfect zinger: the most entertaining outcome is often the most likely, especially when it’s ironic. At this point, the funniest part isn’t whether Anthropic actually has such grand ambitions, but that Gavin insists he has multiple reliable sources, while Anthropic insiders are outright calling those sources liars. Dario himself hasn’t responded yet, so this drama is clearly far from over.
