[South Korea's Financial Supervisory Service Launches System Upgrade to Prepare Refunds for Virtual Asset Voice Phishing Victims]
According to SBS, the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) of South Korea has initiated a comprehensive overhaul of its system to address compensation issues related to financial fraud, including voice phishing involving virtual assets. On August 6, the FSS launched the 'Financial Fraud Loss Compensation System Improvement Project.' This project aims to reform the existing compensation calculation system, which is centered on the Korean won, in preparation for including virtual asset losses in the compensation scope starting this October. The current system primarily calculates compensation amounts based on losses denominated in Korean won, but after the reform, a compensation ratio will be applied, taking into account the type and quantity of the virtual assets involved. Additionally, during payment suspension periods, the Korean won exchange value of the virtual assets will also be factored into the calculations.
