[Samsung Reportedly in Talks to Invest in Mistral, Valuation May Reach €20 Billion]
According to a report by Jinse Finance on July 22, citing the Financial Times, sources familiar with the matter revealed that Samsung is in discussions to participate in a new round of financing for the AI startup Mistral. This round of funding could potentially value Mistral at approximately €20 billion. This move would help the French company position itself as a key alternative to U.S. tech giants. One of the sources stated that Samsung had previously supported the company through its venture capital arm and might invest around €1 billion in this new round of financing.
The discussions highlight how AI developers are increasingly seeking partnerships with semiconductor suppliers to address the industry's growing demand for computing power, which far exceeds supply. Following the Trump administration's ban last month on foreign users accessing Anthropic's latest Mythos and Fable models, interest from European and Asian companies and governments in alternatives to leading U.S. AI models has been steadily rising.
Since its inception, Mistral has focused on developing open-source AI models, allowing clients to customize and control them, ensuring that no company or government can shut these models down. (Jin10)
