NaRRA CEO, Ambassador Antony Anderson, alongside Member of Parliament Hon. Floyd Green, visited Black River and Parottee to hear directly from residents about their experiences and concerns following Hurricane Melissa. These early conversations are an important first step in shaping recovery efforts. Residents shared their views on rebuilding, with some expressing a desire to relocate, while others said they want to remain in their community and continue the way of life they have built, especially those who depend on fishing for their livelihood. Rebuilding must be guided by both the voices of the people and the best available science. Engineers and other experts will work alongside communities to ensure that homes, infrastructure and public spaces are rebuilt to better withstand future climate events and other natural hazards. More community meetings, including formal town halls, will give residents additional opportunities to share their ideas and help shape the recovery process.(Andrew Holness)
