On July 1st, the independent nonprofit organization Ethereum Institutional was officially established, positioned as a neutral gateway between the Ethereum ecosystem and traditional financial institutions.
Founded by the former enterprise team of the Ethereum Foundation, the organization focuses on driving institutional adoption of Ethereum, Layer 2 solutions, and ecosystem applications, helping banks, asset management firms, custodians, and others implement tokenization, stablecoins, and on-chain financial services.
In the future, it will focus on five key areas: institutional collaboration, industry research, ETH and ecosystem promotion, industry demand and standards development, and institutional events.
David Walsh, the former head of the Ethereum Foundation enterprise team, serves as the Executive Director of Ethereum Institutional. Board members include BitMine Chairman Tom Lee, SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom, and David Walsh. Initial anchor sponsors include BitMine, SharpLink, and Ethereum co-founder and Consensys CEO Joseph Lubin.
The team stated that they have already established partnerships with over 500 institutions globally and hosted the Institutional Ethereum Forum, with participating institutions managing a combined asset scale (AUM) of approximately $250 trillion.
After its launch, Ethereum Institutional received support from institutions and ecosystem projects such as Standard Chartered Bank, Bitwise, Aztec Labs, Spark, and Etherealize.
Following the establishment of EthLabs, which focuses on protocol development, Ethereum Institutional will primarily handle institutional collaboration and market promotion, with both working together to advance the Ethereum ecosystem.
The official statement emphasized that the next 12 to 24 months will be a critical window for global financial institutions to choose tokenization, stablecoins, and on-chain financial infrastructure as their foundational platform, aiming to encourage more institutions to choose Ethereum.
