[UK Technology Minister: Increasing Support for Domestic AI Industry]
Golden Finance reported on June 12 that Liz Kendall, the UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology, stated that the UK government will intensify efforts to drive institutional funding into UK tech companies and pledged further support for the domestic artificial intelligence industry.
During an interview at London Tech Week, Kendall said the government aims to unlock investments in UK businesses by reforming laws governing pension fund operations. "I believe you will see more progress very soon," she remarked during the interview.
The UK government has been striving to boost economic growth by encouraging investments in startups and infrastructure projects. Last year, UK pension fund managers agreed to allocate at least 5% of their assets to domestic investments. Subsequently, Chancellor Reeves indicated that mandating funds to allocate capital to UK assets could not be ruled out.
Kendall emphasized that the UK must become an "indispensable partner" in the global technology framework to gain greater control over artificial intelligence. She stated that a "decisive shift" is needed to support more UK AI companies and added that the government itself should take on higher-risk investments in tech startups.
