[Zama Founder Responds to cUSDC Contract Freeze: Communicating with All Parties to Expedite Unfreezing, cUSDC, cUSDT, cWETH Contracts Suspended] BlockBeats News, May 30 – Zama Protocol founder Rand issued the latest statement regarding the freezing of the cUSDC contract. The root cause has been identified, and the incident is entirely unrelated to Zama itself or its privacy technology. Instead, it stems from a hacker address associated with Overnight Finance, which previously deposited approximately $12.5 million USDC. At the time, the address was not flagged on any sanctions list nor intercepted by KYT tools. However, last night, a U.S. court issued a restraining order to freeze the hacker-associated wallet. Since over 99% of the funds in the contract originated from this hacker, the court directly ordered the freezing of the entire wrapper contract to secure the illicit funds. Zama emphasized its consistent stance on "compliant confidentiality" and its zero-tolerance policy toward any illegal activities. The team is currently communicating with all parties to expedite the unfreezing process and has suspended the cUSDC, cUSDT, and cWETH contracts for a thorough investigation. A detailed post-incident analysis and a plan for handling similar court orders in the future will be released subsequently.
