Australian police seize $4.1 million in Bitcoin, linked to dark web drug and weapon transactions Odaily Planet Daily News: After a 15 month investigation, police in New South Wales, Australia, seized 52.3 bitcoins, equivalent to $4.1 million, making it one of the largest operations in recent years to combat dark web cryptocurrency crime in Australia. This batch of encrypted assets can be traced back to the local dark web market in Sydney, involving illegal trading profits of drugs and weapons. The police have arrested two men involved in the case and will appear in court in batches for trial. The current crackdown comes at a time when Australia's cryptocurrency regulation is tightening comprehensively. AUSTRAC is intensifying anti money laundering investigations on local exchanges and over-the-counter cryptocurrency service providers, while also implementing a new digital asset framework law. Starting from 2027, cryptocurrency platforms will be officially included in the financial license regulatory system, and the risks of cryptocurrency involvement and money laundering will be strictly regulated.
