After Bitcoin soared 24% in a single month, Friday's non-farm data may become a "liquidity killer."

Macro sword hangs high, liquidity expectations tighten.

In August, Bitcoin broke through $78,000 with a strong 24% increase, delivering the strongest single-month performance since 2024. However, behind this frenzy, the reality of the macro economy is quietly approaching.

The U.S. employment report to be released this Friday is becoming the "Sword of Damocles" deciding whether this liquidity feast can continue.

In August, Bitcoin delivered an extremely impressive performance: a monthly surge of nearly 24%, hitting a high of $81,300 at the end of the month, and finally stabilizing above $78,000, marking the strongest monthly performance since 2024.

Many retail investors are immersed in the fervent expectation of "breaking $130,000 by the end of the year," but for top macro traders, every bit of liquidity on the market is extremely fragile.

Currently in the Reddit crypto community, discussions in popular posts reveal traders' concerns about changes in macro policy:

“We are just one employment data report away from a significant 'Local Top'.”

While on-chain data or ETF net inflows are certainly important, the pricing power of crypto assets still largely needs to be returned to the traditional macro system.

Bitcoin's sharp rise in mid-to-late August benefited significantly from the U.S. Treasury Department's announcement to expand the buyback of long-term government bonds (injecting temporary liquidity into the market). However, this "artificial blood transfusion" masks a fatal bearish factor: the Fed's underlying stance has changed.

On August 28, Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh set an extremely hawkish tone at the Jackson Hole global central bank annual meeting, clearly warning that inflation remains very sticky and far from the 2% target.

This statement directly shattered the market's illusion of continuous interest rate cuts. According to the latest CME FedWatch data, traders' current expectations for a 25 basis point rate hike by the Fed in September have surged to 66%. The market's expectations for the Fed's macro policy have subtly tilted.

This means that the rate hike scythe is hanging in midair. Once the dollar index strengthens due to rate hike expectations, the hedging demand and liquidity premium for risk assets (gold, cryptocurrencies) will be rapidly drained.

Friday's Non-Farm Payroll (NFP): A Life-or-Death "Liquidity Switch"

Why are all institutions fixated on this Friday's U.S. August Non-Farm Payroll report? Because this is the last and most crucial piece of the puzzle before the Fed's September decision.

Just a month ago, July's non-farm data surprised to the downside (unexpectedly losing 23,000 jobs), directly triggering market panic over an economic recession, while also igniting rate cut expectations, contributing to Bitcoin's counter-trend rebound in early August.

If the August non-farm data released on Friday shows strong performance, it will become the perfect excuse for the Fed; it will prove to the market that the labor market remains highly resilient, and the economy can withstand higher borrowing costs. This would be tantamount to giving the Fed a "green light" for a rate hike in September.

Once such a "Hot Print" (overheating data) occurs, the common script will be that U.S. Treasury yields will soar instantly, and the macro funds that propelled Bitcoin above $78,000 will exit at lightning speed, putting the market at risk of breaching the $70,000 support line.

Moreover, the threat of macro data does not only lie in the news; it also reflects in the extremely distorted funding game.

Looking at the current community sentiment, the vast majority of retail investors are still blindly shouting, "If it falls below $70, just brainlessly buy." However, from the derivatives market, in the current open contracts, the number of leveraged long positions is 2 to 3 times that of short positions.

In such an “extremely crowded long position” scenario, the market is highly prone to trigger “reflexive liquidations.” What Wall Street's quantitative institutions like the most is to exploit the volatility at the moment the non-farm data drops on Friday, to short-sell sharply and precisely blow up this group of high-leverage longs.

At this point, betting on Friday's Fed macro data with long positions is a game of coin flipping with a very low probability of success and a very poor risk-reward ratio.

In the short term, fiat currency pricing is always constrained by the tidal flow of macro news cycles. During the window of "temporary liquidity injection from the Treasury" and "substantive rate hikes by the Fed" pulling against each other, the smartest money is exiting the red sea.

Rather than trying to predict bullish or bearish outcomes before Friday's data blind box, temporarily holding stablecoins for risk avoidance, waiting for the non-farm data to be released and institutions to complete the first round of brutal washout, and then looking for liquidity turning points to re-enter is currently the most cost-effective strategy.
