There is nothing new under the sun; on-chain data points to insider trading.

Deep Tide Introduction: On August 6, Robinhood officially launched the meme coin CASHCAT for trading, named after Robinhood's former name "Cash Cat", and it is the largest token listed on its self-built L2 chain. Within 15 hours of its launch, it surged 151% to $0.214, before giving back most of the gains. On-chain analysis firm Bubblemaps discovered that two days before the launch announcement, a batch of newly created wallets concentrated on buying millions of dollars of CASHCAT, currently showing over $3 million in unrealized profits, suspected of having prior knowledge of the token listing information.

Robinhood opened the front door to its largest meme coin.

On August 6, Robinhood simultaneously launched CASHCAT trading on its trading app and desktop platform Legend. The name of this token comes from a piece of old news about Robinhood: founders Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt initially named the company "Cash Cat" when they started it in 2010, before renaming it to Robinhood. Someone made this discarded name into a meme coin, deploying it on the self-built L2 chain that Robinhood launched on July 1 this year.

Upon the announcement of the launch, CASHCAT jumped from $0.085 to $0.214, with a 151% increase within 15 hours. During the most intense hour, the price skyrocketed by 66%, with a single-hour trading volume of $17.2 million. However, the gains quickly retraced, with the current price back down to around $0.12, giving it a market capitalization of about $117 million.

The issue is that CASHCAT's price has already dropped significantly from its peak weeks ago.

New wallets aggressively built positions two days in advance, unrealized profits exceeding $3 million

On August 6, on-chain analysis firm Bubblemaps pointed out a suspicious pattern: a batch of newly created wallets concentrated on buying millions of dollars of CASHCAT two days before Robinhood officially announced its launch. After the announcement was made, the unrealized profits of these wallets have exceeded $3 million.

A prior post by Bubblemaps (on August 4) provided more specific details: a cluster of new wallets bought $2.7 million in CASHCAT the previous night, and the token subsequently doubled. Bubblemaps directly posed the question, "Coordinated?"

Bubblemaps did not identify the owners of the wallets, nor did it directly accuse any party. Robinhood has not commented on these addresses.

According to BeInCrypto, Bubblemaps' on-chain tracking diagram (Bubble Map) shows the funding relationships between these new wallets, with multiple wallets exhibiting clustered fund flow characteristics. This pattern is not uncommon in the meme coin space, but the timing falls right before a major listing announcement, making the implications even clearer.

"Making a token from a previous company name, listing on its own exchange"

The special aspect of CASHCAT lies in its ambiguous relationship with Robinhood.

This token has no team, no roadmap, and the official FAQ clearly states: "We have no relationship with Robinhood. We just think Cash Cat is a good name that they shouldn't have abandoned. This is fan fiction with a bit of code added."

However, Robinhood's attitude has been fluctuating. On July 2, Vlad Tenev stated on CNBC that "assets without utility have no lasting value," and RWA is the direction. Six days later, he posted on X platform that Robinhood Chain "is also very suitable for memes," and even followed the CASHCAT account. During the Q2 earnings call on July 30, traders noticed that when Tenev demonstrated the mobile app, CASHCAT appeared in his recent search list, and the token rose by 16% that day.

From a "fan fiction" to being officially listed for trading by Robinhood, CASHCAT has made a leap from a wild token to "quasi-official recognition." Robinhood's exchange Bitstamp also launched CASHCAT on the same day, without issuing a separate listing announcement.

A meme coin drives the entire chain: daily trading volume of $518 million

On the day of its launch, the trading volume on the Robinhood Chain's DEX reached $518 million, an increase of 60% from the previous day. The total deposits on-chain are approximately $433 million. A single meme coin has stimulated the trading activity of the entire chain.

The positioning of this chain at its launch on July 1 was "a dedicated chain for tokenized stocks and RWA," which took Robinhood over a year to build, resulting in the launch of 95 tokenized stocks. However, on-chain activity has been dominated by meme coins since the first week. According to Bernstein's July 13 research report, the total value of tokenized RWA is merely about $12.8 million, while the weekly trading volume for meme coins has reached billions of dollars. By late July, the RWA scale had grown to about $70 million, but meme coin and stablecoin trading still held absolute dominance.

Bubblemaps' earlier statistics were even more alarming: Among the top 50 meme coins on the Robinhood Chain, 63% of the 164,000 traders are in a losing position, with only 37% profitable. The stark contrast is that the earliest buyers have seen remarkable profits. One wallet bought at $85 within 30 minutes of CASHCAT's launch, reaching a peak value of $2.3 million, with a return rate of approximately 27,000 times. Another wallet bought at $316 and now holds assets worth over $2.17 million.

Moreover, CASHCAT has a current 30-day increase of about 1193%, still about 48% lower than the historical peak of $0.229 on July 11. The main trading pool's liquidity is only about $5.3 million, while the trading volume on the launch day was 17 times the liquidity, indicating that large sell orders will have a substantial impact on prices.

On-chain data shows that there are currently about 48,710 wallets holding CASHCAT. Listing on Robinhood's main site significantly lowers the entry threshold for retail investors; whether the number of buyers matches the selling depth will determine if the current price level can be maintained.

Bubblemaps previously conducted a holding distribution check for CASHCAT, concluding that "no major holding clusters were found, and the holdings are relatively dispersed," with early concentrated holding clusters already having liquidated their positions.

This stands in stark contrast to tokens like CASHDOG, which have been labeled as "highly tied." However, before the FOMO (fear of missing out), players need to consider whether the concentrated buying pattern of new wallets before the listing constitutes a new concentrated holding, and should be cautious not to get too excited due to the lowered purchasing threshold and the alluring narrative of a "child of the parent company."
