@a16z releases the fifth global AI application ranking: the top 100 revealed!

The latest list focuses on the most popular AI websites and mobile applications worldwide, with surprising usage rankings!

Data insights + highlights from the list, come see which applications made the cut.

The consumer AI market is gradually stabilizing

In this ranking, only 11 new names were added to the web version, a decrease from 17 in the previous issue. The mobile version saw more new applications, mainly due to strict regulation of ChatGPT imitators in app stores.

*Excludes products under Google, details below.

Google makes a strong move

For the first time, we ranked Google domains separately - four domains made it to the web ranking: -@geminiapp (#2) -@googleaistudio (#10) -@notebooklm (#13) -@googlelabs (#39) Notably, NotebookLM has seen a continuous surge in traffic since its explosive launch!

Grok and Meta make a strong entry

@grok debuted at #4 on the web ranking and #23 on mobile - in less than a year, it has grown from zero to over 20 million monthly active users! The release of Grok 4 and its related products further fueled traffic growth. Although Meta squeezed into the web ranking at #46, it unfortunately did not make it to the mobile ranking!

China's AI ecosystem rises, blooming both domestically and internationally

Due to the ban on ChatGPT, Claude, and others, the local ecosystem in China has rapidly developed: Quark, Doubao, Kimi, and others have made the list thanks to their domestic user base. Notably, seven web companies and 22 mobile application companies, although originating from China, successfully made the list based on their global user numbers!

Vibe Coding sparks a new trend, user numbers surge

Since ChatGPT, we haven't seen phenomenal growth like that of vibecoding! @lovable_dev + @replit made their debut on the web ranking, while @boltdotnew was included in the Brink List. Data shows that these platforms not only boosted the usage of Vibe applications but also drove traffic growth for related platforms (like Supabase)!

An all-star lineup emerges

In our fifth release of the top 50 web ranking, 14 companies made the list each time - we call them "all-stars"! Creative tool companies occupy the most spots, followed by general large language model (LLM) assistants, productivity tools, model hosting platforms, and companion applications.

Brink List: Who just missed the cut?

Finally, let's take a look at the "Brink List" - those applications that "almost" made it!

Web: @PixAIOfficial, @boltdotnew, @AiBlckbx, @clipchamp, @linerapp

Mobile: @TalkieAPP, SeeKee, Photo AI, @aimirrorapp, @tryarvin

Congratulations to all the applications that made the list - we can't wait to see the next round of rankings after June!
