As a veteran blue-chip NFT, after experiencing a history of rug scandals, rough quality of new series, and controversies over fundraising cash-outs, Azuki has fallen into a long period of low tide due to the continuous decline in floor prices.
In order to regain influence and reshape the value of NFT, the founder of Azuki not only revealed his identity to enhance community trust, but also joined hands with Arbitrum Foundation and Weeb3 Foundation to launch AnimeChain, a blockchain-based anime network, initiating a new narrative of "open anime universe."
According to AnimeChain, the anime industry has evolved from a niche subculture to a dominant force in global popular culture, experiencing rapid growth in entertainment, fashion, sports, music, games, and art, and is expected to reach $60 billion by 2030. However, anime fans in the Web3 space are currently facing the fragmentation of user experience. AnimeChain will provide a community-governed online anime ecosystem, attracting anime fans to enter the Web3 world by offering mixed content, games, merchandise, and NFT, thus opening the next era for anime enthusiasts.
In order to provide a user experience similar to Web2 for millions of anime fans worldwide, AnimeChain has adopted Arbitrum as the technical solution. In response to this, Azuki's co-founder, location tba, stated in a tweet that the biggest obstacle faced by Web3 is user experience. Among several mature scaling solutions, Arbitrum's low fees and high TPS can provide an experience close to Web2, and with the support of custom gas tokens in Arbitrum Orbit, only one token is needed to navigate the entire ecosystem and pay gas fees, which will better attract Web2 anime fans. In addition, the programming environment Stylus launched by Arbitrum allows developers to write smart contracts interoperable with EVM using mainstream languages such as Rust and C++, with higher execution efficiency.
At the same time, location tba also revealed that AnimeChain will provide a more intuitive user interface and simplify the interaction process, so that users do not need to have a deep understanding of blockchain technology, similar to the commonly used applications of anime streaming giant Crunchyroll.
Regarding the launch of AnimeChain, Azuki's founder, Zagabond, stated, "Over the past two years, the team has made meaningful progress, including the creation of about 100 sub-communities, over 8,000 fans, and commissioned art pieces by the Azuki community, proving the possibility of new IP in the Web3 space. With the upcoming release of Azuki's anime collection series and more talents joining, Azuki's potential is just beginning to emerge. The team's main focus is still to establish Azuki as a globally recognized anime IP, create digital and physical experiences, and reward collectors. As a pioneer in brand and IP creation, Azuki will shape the next generation of anime experience from production and consumption perspectives. In the future, AnimeChain will not only introduce existing anime IPs and players. In the coming months, Azuki will provide detailed instructions on how Azuki holders can participate in AnimeChain and benefit from it."
Currently, Azuki is the first partner released by AnimeChain, and Zagabond, LocationTBA, and other Azuki members are all contributors to AnimeChain. It is worth mentioning that there were rumors in the market months ago that Azuki was laying out an open anime universe. In January of this year, Azuki's official account followed and retweeted a tweet from Weeb3 Foundation. The Twitter bio of Weeb3 Foundation's account reads "Building an open metaverse, powered by $ANIME," leading the community to speculate that $ANIME is the token to be issued by Azuki. Currently, the account no longer exists and has been updated to the official account of AnimeCoin (AnimeChain).
In order to enhance user trust and pave the way for the release of the new product AnimeChain, Zagabond recently revealed his identity at a domestic event, stating that he is Chinese, born in Harbin, and this is the first time in over five years that he has returned to his homeland (before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic), with the personal life goal of better connecting the East and the West.
However, despite Zagabond's "emotional appeal" and the launch of AnimeChain, it has not had a significant boost on the prices of several NFTs under Azuki. Data from the NFT platform Blur shows that in the past 24 hours, Azuki has fallen by 3.09%, Azuki Elementals has risen by 3.53%, and Beanz has fallen by about 1.52%. According to CoinGecko data, as of March 28, Azuki's market value ranking has fallen to eighth place, surpassed by NFT projects such as NodeMonkes, Pudgy Penguins, and Runestone.
In conclusion, when the old narrative can no longer gain more community recognition and trust, whether Azuki can achieve self-evolution and value upgrade through AnimeChain still awaits time verification.
