[U.S. Department of Justice to Appeal Powell Case Ruling, Potentially Delaying Waller's Appointment]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on March 14, after a judge dismissed subpoenas issued to the Federal Reserve, U.S. federal prosecutor Pirro vowed to continue investigating Federal Reserve Chairman Powell. This could potentially delay the appointment of Powell's successor, Kevin Waller, as Powell's term is set to end in May. U.S. District Judge James Boasberg stated that the government failed to provide any evidence to justify the subpoenas, which were related to the renovation of the Federal Reserve headquarters and Powell's comments on the project. Pirro said, 'This process has been arbitrarily disrupted by an activist judge. The procedure should have followed its due course, but it didn’t. It’s truly disgraceful.'
U.S. Senate Banking Committee member Tillis warned that as long as the Department of Justice's investigation into Powell remains unresolved, he will block any nomination for Federal Reserve Chair. 'This ruling confirms how weak and baseless the criminal investigation into Chairman Powell is. It’s nothing more than a failed attack on the Federal Reserve's independence,' Tillis said. 'The appeal will only delay Kevin Waller's confirmation as the next Federal Reserve Chair.'
